David's Profile

Most of my career has been in building products but I have sales experience in everything from paper-back books, fashion jewellery, truck parts and wallcoverings to high specification products on multimillion-pound projects.  As well as product diversity I have also acquired an acute understanding of supply channels and have real-life experience of both B2B and B2C business.

I was most recently Managing Director of Hörmann (UK) Ltd, the UK subsidiary of a large family owned German company. My business unit had revenues of £60m and staff of 135. However, I have worked for companies of all shapes and sizes, from small family owned business to PLC’s and much is said about the relative differences, usually negative. In my experience they are usually used as excuses and what is always needed is a common-sense approach and good leadership, in all areas of business. My three guiding principles of leadership are the three C’s: Clarity, Consistency and Courage, ideally in equal measure!

Outside of work I am keen cyclist and have completed several epic rides including the Hope Against Cancer, Italian Job charity ride which was 360 miles across the Alps. I’m an occasional runner and have completed four half marathons. I’m also a walker and most recently did the Leicestershire Round, which is a registered long-distance walk of 102 miles, in four days. Next, I’ll do it in three!  At Hörmann I was fortunate to be able to select Alzheimer’s Society as the partner charity and was delighted to have raised over £45k.

Midlands based, with my much better half and our very old lurcher, who sadly cannot accompany me to the local pub as he once did.
